Because she is awesome.<br /><br />This: ". . . she remembered what Helen thought about it with the kind of clarity she usually reserved for the trajectory around Mars." I love Amelia's focus on Helen. (And I love that her name is Amelia. Oh, and that hers is Helen.) I was struck by how Amelia sees disability through her pilot's lens.<br /><br />And oh, the insecurity. Just a hint of it. Feels real.<br /><br />The ending ouch. It's haunting. (Sorry! True, though.)<br /><br />I am very interested how this story relates to the other. Makes me wonder how far into the future we are, and where the aliens come in. I like Amelia and Helen.
